Barbara Bush is now home and is doing fine. The former first lady was released Wednesday after being admitted to Houston’s Methodist Hospital Saturday after having a “mild relapse” of Graves’ disease, ABC News reports.
Doctors conducted several tests on Bush, 84, to diagnose the cause of her collapse. It wasn’t until Tuesday doctors realized Bush’s Graves’ disease struck back. The disease is a thyroid condition where the body’s immune system attacks the gland. Bush has lived with for 20 years and treats with medication, according to ABC News.
To combat her recent relapse, Bush’s prescriptions were adjusted accordingly and she’s “expected to make a full recovery” ABC News reports the hospital said in a statement. Bush’s husband President George H.W. Bush was by her hospital bed during the past week.
ABC News reports hospital spokeswoman Stefanie Asin released a statement saying: “Upon discharge, she was alert, talkative and appeared to be getting stronger as she prepared to return home.”
