Barney Frank Calls Supreme Court Justice Scalia a "Homophobe"
Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank is taking major heat for his loaded accusations against Scalia, according to CNN.
Frank, who is homosexual himself, points out two opinions written by Scalia that Frank says state "it's a terrible idea" for gay and lesbian peoples to have equal rights. Frank also accused Scalia of writing a dissent of the other justices, where he supported a law discriminating against gay and lesbian people.
In an emotionally-charged interview with CNN, Frank went on to paraphrase what he claimed as Scalia's sentiments that "gays are bad people." Furthermore, he accused Scalia of comparing homosexuality to murder as a crime.
"There is just no question about his absolute view that . . . homosexuals are bad people that shouldn't be treated equally," said Frank.
The controversy was instigated with Frank's speculation that the Supreme Court would be asked to decide whether it was constitutional for the federal government to deny recognition of same-sex marriages sometime in the near future.
Justice Scalia declined to comment.
