Baseball Drug Use Report to be Released
Former United States Senator, George Mitchell has spent the last 21 months investigating the use of steroids in Major League Baseball. On Thursday he is expected to release the names of as many as 50 current and former Major League players who he has found in his investigation to be drug cheats. Mitchell was asked to head the investigation on drug use by baseball players by Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig. According to Voice of America News, the former Senator's report is expected to provide a scrutiny of how baseball allowed steroids, human growth hormones, and amphetamines to become part of the once honored and admired sport. Active baseball players who will be named in the report are expected to face less than the current penalty of a 50-game suspension for first time steroid use.
