Baseball Player Killed in Crash

Los Angeles Angels pitcher was killed in a car crash in Fullerton, California, Thursday morning.

Nick Adenhart, 22-year-old rookie pitcher from Silver Spring, Maryland, died at UC Irving Medical Center, according to spokesman John Murray, reported CNN.

There were three vehicles involved in the accident. A red minivan allegedly ran a red light and hit two vehicles at an intersection, according to Police Lt. Craig Brower. One of the vehicles, a gray Mitsubishi carrying Adenhart and three other passengers, crashed into a power pole when hit by the minivan. Two passengers were declared dead at the scene, the other two (Adenhart included) were transported to the UC Irvine Medical Center.

The driver of the minivan fled the scene. He was later arrested and is now facing charges for manslaughter, driving under the influence, and hit-and-run. There was another passenger in that minivan who experienced minor injuries. The third car involved in the accident sustained minor damage and the driver was unhurt.

Adenhart underwent surgery when he arrived at the hospital, according to Murray, but died either during or after the procedure. The other surviving passenger is in critical condition.

The crash happened at approximately 12:23 a.m., Adenhart died mid- to late morning.
