Batman Star Denies Assault

Actor released from police questioning, continues to promote film.

Christian Bale, star of the record-breaking Batman film, The Dark Knight, has denied allegations by his mother and sister that he had assaulted them, the New York Times reports.

In a statement, Bale said that he voluntarily submitted himself to police questioning in London but was released without being charged. Though some news outlets reported that the actor had been released on bail, his publicist, Jennifer Allen, could not confirm it.

Bale is next scheduled to appear in Terminator Salvation, which is being filmed in Albuquerque, N.M. Allen, in a phone interview with the Times, said that Bale would continue on to Barcelona to promote The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight set box-office records its opening weekend with $158.4 million in U.S. ticket sales. The film has already accumulated near $41 million abroad so far.
