BBC Cutting Thousands of Jobs

The BBC plans to cut 10% of its workforce.

On Tuesday, Mark Thompson, General Director of the BBC announced that it will be cutting at least 2,900 of its 28,000 jobs within the next two to three years. In addition they will be cutting 320 million pounds in expenses.

"There is an amazing creative prize for the BBC and our audiences, but it's a prize that comes at a price," said Thompson. "To achieve all this, the BBC must undergo nothing short of transformation."

The BBC, popular for shows like "EastEnders" and "The Office", is also seeking a new ownership structure or possibly a sale for BBC resources, the BBC Broadcast, as well as its studio and production unit. This can also lead to an additional cut of 2,300 jobs.
