'Beatles Day' Could Cause a Riot
This upcoming Wednesday is aptly titled "Beatles Day" by fans and media alike. The reason being that EMI/ Apple Corps are re-releasing the entire Beatles catalog in proper digital CD format.
You have seen the date 9/9/09 in any medium of entertainment such as TV, magazines, retail stores, etc. This day will bring The Beatles into a new generation of fans and hopefully re-excite those that have been fans for years, waiting desperately for this re-release of the bands entire catalog in a crisp, beautiful sounding format.
Who knows, next Wednesday your local 'Best Buy' could look like the crowd of the Ed Sullivan show so many years ago, full of screaming fans waiting for a chance to get their hands on John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
One little problem so far regarding these re-releases that could cause a panic is if they sell out through pre-orders before they even reach the shelf. Individual CD's should be fine, but Box Sets of their entire catalog both Stereo and Mono could be hard to get a hand on at first before retail companies re-order more for the upcoming weeks.
One such retail site feeling this problem is Amazon.com. According to EntertainmentWeekly.com Simon Levinson, a writer for the site went to pre-order his copy of one of the box sets and got a not so happy message from the site-- "So I happily went to Amazon.com last week to file my pre-order only to learn that I was already too late. 'We have sold out of our initial allocation of Beatles stereo box sets,' the impassive emporium told me, 'but we will be receiving more inventory after release date.' After release date? Are you kidding me, Amazon?! You expect me to spend 9/9/09 sitting around listening to something other than this box set?"
This reaction could be the same for fans around the world when they go to pick up or order said box sets. EMI says that they will be continuing the manufacture and supply retailers with both versions of the box sets.
