The Beatles' Entire CD Collection to Be Re-Released
According to the Chicago Tribune, all of the CD music of the Beatles is set to be digitally re-mastered and re-released.
EMI Music and Apple Corps, Ltd. announced Tuesday that the new CDs will be released Sept. 9.
The CDs will include new liner notes and photos, and for a limited time, will include a short documentary movie about each album. Two new boxed sets will be released, one in stereo and one in mono.
The release of the CDs will run concurrently with the premiere of The Beatles: Rock Band video game.
Much of the hype around the release came from interviews, with both Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono, conducted by the Tribune. Both said a complete digitalization of the Beatles albums was coming "soon," but gave no specific timeframe.
The band's statement said this would be "the highest fidelity the catalog has seen since its original release."
The first box set will contain 14 discs, all 12 original CDs plus Past Masters Vol. I and II and 1987's Magical Mystery Tour.
The second box set will have 10 original albums and two CDs of mono master tapes.
