Bench Warrant Issued for Shia LaBeouf

The "Transformers" star failed to appear in court on a smoking citation, prompting the issue of a bench warrant.

After both he and his lawyer failed to appear in court Tuesday on an unlawful smoking charge, actor Shia LaBeouf now has a $1,000 bench warrant issued to ensure his next court appearance or else risk arrest, reports the Associated Press.

The 21-year-old star of last year's blockbuster, Transformers, and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was cited last month for unlawfully smoking a cigarette on the sidewalk and ordered to appear in a Los Angeles County courthouse for the misdemeanor offense.

What made this particular act of smoking at this particular time illegal is not clear, as court documents that were filed did not contain details about the circumstances or specific location. However, TMZ and MTV report that the incident occurred on February 18 outside a knick-knack gift shop called Skyblupink.

MTV also reports that LaBeouf had an earlier run-in with authorities last November, being arrested at a Chicago Walgreens store for intoxication and refusing to leave the premises.
