Bennett's Cause of Death to Be Revealed

The death of former Wilco band member remains a mystery. Jay Bennett, 45, died on Sunday at his Urbana home in Illinois.

An autopsy of the former band member is scheduled for later today. The Chicago Tribune reported that Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup expects to have preliminary autopsy results soon. Northrup said that Bennett was found unresponsive in his home Sunday morning and that there was no external evidence of trauma.

According to Bennett's MySpace page last month, he was complaining of severe pain in his hips. Bennett mentioned that he needed hip-replacement surgery, but that he did not have proper health insurance.

Bennett is best known for working as a sound engineer and playing instruments for the Wilco band from 1994 to 2001. At the beginning of May, Bennett filed a lawsuit against Jeff Tweedy, Wilco lead singer, for royalties he said was due to him for his seven years with the band.
