Tonight, BET is proud to present The BET Honors which, for the fifth year in a row, is being hosted by actress Gabrielle Union. With awards season in full throttle, it’s kind of like “another day, another honor!”
In a pre-taped ceremony [the original taping took place on Jan. 14], Willow Smith, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Common, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard and Cicely Tyson, among others, helped celebrate some of the most inspiring people today.
There are six people, or honorees, whose legacy will live on forever. They include:
Stevie Wonder, a musical genius, who will be presented with a Musical Arts Award.
Tuskegee Airmen, who, according to BET are respected for their role in WWII, will be presented with a Service Award.
Dr. Maya Angelou, historian and poet, will be presented with a Literary Arts Award. More on Dr. Maya Angelou can be found on her website at MayaAngelou.com.
Spike Lee, a film director, producer, writer and actor, will be presented with a Media Award. For more information on him, visit IMDb.com.
Mariah Carey, diva and sensational singer, will be presented with an Entertainer Award.
Beverly Kearney, a now wheelchair bound coach who’s story is remarkable and touching, will be presented with an Education Award. More information on her story is available at The Survivors Club.
