Justin Bieber's first film, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, debuted Friday and grossed $12.4 million, Insider Movies reports. The film is being played in 3,105 theaters, 2,516 of those locations run it in 3D.

With the reported $12.4 million opening day, Bieber has surpassed Miley Cyrus's first film, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, by $3.7 million. Cyrus's film grossed $8.7 million on its first Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Researchers say the debut means nothing if the the film cannot survive the entire weekend. Miley Cyrus's film grossed $31.1 million on its first weekend. Bieber's film is expected to hit $29 million this weekend, short of Cyrus's big hit.

That amount would not match Adam Sandler's Just Go with It this weekend, which is on pace for $30 million in the box office.
