Bills Introduce Nix As Franchise’s New General Manager

The Buffalo Bills introduced Buddy Nix as the franchise’s new General Manager on Thursday

Hall of Fame owner of the Buffalo Bills, Ralph Wilson, announced on Thursday that former General Manager Russ Brandon is being promoted to the Chief Executive Officer of the franchise while well-respected National Scout Buddy New will fill Brandon’s old position as the team’s new GM. According to ESPN.com, the 70-year-old Nix served as the area scout for the Bills from 1993 to 2000 and returned to the team in 2009 after serving as the Assistant General Manager and director of player personnel for the San Diego Chargers.

Nix beat out John Guy and Tom Modrak, who were the two other strong candidates for the promotion, for the position due to how much he impressed Wilson during the interviewing process. Nix will have the unenviable task of attempting to turn around a franchise that has not qualified for the playoffs in a decade. While there are several areas of weakness on the team that will need to be addressed, the Bills do have several promising young players on the roster including rookie Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd who recorded nine interceptions in 2009.

Nix will have to come to a decision in regards to the head coaching position of the team since interim coach Perry Fewell is unlikely to maintain his position at the conclusion of the 2009 regular season. The Bills new General Manager will also be forced to address the quarterback position where the team has lacked a franchise signal caller for several years.
