Billy Crystal Gets To Be Yankee for a Day
According to the Associated Press, Billy Crystal will play baseball with the New York Yankees against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Crystal will work out with the team on Wednesday and plans to wear uniform No. 60 on game day, which is one day before the actor celebrates his 60th birthday. The actor will sign a one-day, minor league contract which will allow him to play ball as a birthday present. Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has approved the special game.
Crystal was captain of his baseball team throughout his senior year at Long Beach High School in New York. He has always been actively involved in the New York Yankees organization and is being rewarded for his contributions by Yankees manager Joe Girardi. Girardi has expressed his excitement to have the comedian play on the team and has not decided yet which position Crystal will play in Thursday's game.
