Billy Mays's Family Contests Autopsy Report
The result for TV pitchman Billy Mays's autopsy was revealed Friday, finding that cocaine use was a "contributory cause of death." But Mays's family disagrees, saying that they were not aware that Mays used cocaine or any non-prescriptive drug, and are now considering having an independent review the autopsy.
The actor died of heart disease on June 26, which is listed as his primary cause of death. The Hillsborough County medical examiner's office concluded that cocaine "caused or contributed to the development of his heart disease, and thereby contributed to his death." The office said that Mays had used cocaine in the days prior to his death but was not under the influence of the drug when he died.
For their part, Mays's family are questioning the cocaine findings, saying in a statement that the results are "highly disappointing" and that the autopsy report "contains speculative conclusions that are frankly unnecessary."
Mays was famous for his energetic commercials for cleaning products such as Orange Glow and OxiClean. He was 50 years old.
