People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, abbreviated as PETA, released an ad Wednesday that shows Bob Barker condemning SeaWorld. It will air during Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Barker was the long-time game show host of The Price is Right. At the end of the show, he often reminded viewers not to buy fur and to have their pets spayed or neutered.
In the ad, Barker says, “Life in cramped tanks is no prize for orcas and dolphins. They want to be free with their families in the ocean.”
PETA criticizes SeaWorld for forcing animals to swim in repetitive circles and perform everyday, which causes them to die prematurely, The New York Daily News reports.
SeaWorld issued the following statement: “PETA is an extremist organization which is as careless with their facts as they are extreme in their views. We feel Mr. Barker should acquaint himself with SeaWorld’s commitment to the animals in its care and to conserving and protecting wildlife and wild places. The public would be better served if Mr. Barker and PETA would focus their energy on animals truly in need."
The park also argues that their orcas and dolphins live as long as those in the wild, and that the tanks shown in the ad are not from SeaWorld.
