Bob Barker Retiring After 35 Years
After over three decades of hosting the longest-running game show on television, Bob Barker told the Associated Press, Tuesday, that he will be leaving "The Price Is Right" next June.
"I will be 83 years old on Dec. 12, and I've decided to retire while I'm still young," Barker said. "I've gone on and on to this ancient age because I've enjoyed it. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm going to miss it."
Barker has hosted the show since its 1972 premiere and has only missed three episodes since then. Barker has spent 50 years working on television and has been considering retirement over the past decade.
"I'm just reaching the age where the constant effort to be there and do the show physically is a lot for me," Barker said.
CBS says the show will continue without Barker, although a new host has not been chosen yet.
"We knew this day would come, but that doesn't make it any easier," said CBS President Leslie Moonves. "Bob Barker is a daytime legend, an entertainment icon and one of the most beloved television personalities of our time."
"The Price Is Right" airs two episodes every weekday. The show has maintained a loyal audience with its addictive energy and high-end prizes.
