Borat Sparks Another Lawsuit

Man in film sues 20th Century Fox for showing him running away from Borat, without his consent.

Everyone's favorite walking controversy, Sacha Baron Cohen, has another lawsuit on his hands in the aftermath of his film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. An anonymous man, identified as John Doe, sued 20th Century Fox for his appearance in the film, seen running away from the fictional Kazakh reporter, yelling at him to "go away."

The lawsuit claims that the plaintiff was used in the film without his consent, which caused emotional damage. This is the fourth lawsuit for the successful film, which grossed $260 million. One of the lawsuits has already been thrown out, generated by two college frat members shown making derogatory comments in the film.

In another lawsuit, two residents from a town in Romania, where the scenes allegedly depicting Borat in Kazakhstan were filmed, sued 20th Century Fox for $30 million. They claimed that they were represented as rapists and prostitutes in the film. In the final previous lawsuit, a man from South Carolina sued over a scene in which he appeared in the bathroom. The scene was deleted from the film, however.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of this latest lawsuit will be. The 20th Century Fox spokesman was not available for comment.
