Boston Legal Renewed

The show will return in the fall for its fifth season.

The critically acclaimed courtroom drama, Boston Legal, will return for a fifth season, after rumors were swirling that the show might be cancelled.

After what the Hollywood Reporter was calling "intense negotiations," Sunday, with the show's creator, David E. Kelley, ABC reached an agreement to air the show's fifth season in the fall. ABC had originally wanted to hold Boston Legal until midseason.

Also up for pickup is Kelley's drama, Life on Mars, which is thought to be a serious candidate for a series pickup since Boston Legal was renewed.

ABC has been focusing in on Life on Mars, which stars Jason O'Mara, with the creators of October Road, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg, taking the reins as the series' executive producers. But the deal had to get the approval of its creator, and now that Boston Legal has been picked up, it appears that Life on Mars will as well.
