Brad Pitt Will be Fighting the Undead in Upcoming Zombie Flick

Pitt will star in 'World War Z', the big-screen adaptation of the hit novel

Brad Pitt is set to star in the film adaptation of the best-selling 2006 novel, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.

Max Brooks, who penned of the post-apocalyptic zombie tale, recently confirmed to MTV that the A-lister is officially attached to play the lead in the project.

Rumors of Pitt starring in the movie have been around ever since his production company, Plan B, landed the rights to the book back in 2007.

According to MonstersAndCritics.com, Brooks also revealed that Paramount has optioned the movie rights to Brooks’ other zombie-related works, The Zombie Survival Guide and the graphic novel The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks.

"I can't believe how cool Paramount has been to me and these projects, and how cool Plan B has been," Brooks said when asked for his reaction to the news.

The studio is hoping to have a hit zombie-flick similar to last year's Zombie Land, which scored at the box-office.

Brooks also added that Paramount is aiming for summer 2012 release for World War Z.

The novel has apparently gained a large cult-following among horror fans.

The “undead” as sexy is currently in vogue in the entertainment world, thanks in part to the success of the Twilight series. But an army of zombies terrorizing the world is not like a love affair between a girl and a teenage vampire. Brooks revealed to Fangoria in July 2009 that he believes Paramount has a lot of confidence it will be well-received by audiences based on all the money they have apparently thrown at it since the project’s inception.

Early speculation surrounding the project has the film being in the same vein as Children of Men and 2009's The Road, which starred Viggo Mortensen. Both were critically acclaimed and considerably successful for bleak predictions of the future.
