Brigitte Nielsen Blames Poor Marriage for Alcoholism

Danish actress Brigitte Nielsen has cited her poor marriage to Raoul Meyer as the trigger for her alcoholism, WENN reports.

Nielsen, who is now married to Italian bartender Mattia Dessi, feels that her marriage to Meyer, and its collapse in 2005, made her turn to drink. "I believe my last marriage turned me into an alcoholic. I was so miserable and stayed because of the kids, but in the end it was awful for them because we were arguing," Nielsen reveals.

The star has struggled with alcohol abuse for a long while - "six or seven years, I hid the bottles" - and checked into rehab last year to take control of her life. She knew that she had hit bottom when even her children could not keep her on the straight and narrow. "When you're that depressed you can't even do it (stop drinking) for your kids - that's the most disgusting thing," she admits.

Nielsen and Dessi have been married since July of 2006.
