Actress Brittany Murphy may have met her premature end from toxic mold, according to her mother.
Murphy died in 2009. Her husband, Simon Monjack, joined her five months later. In both cases, the cause was ruled as pneumonia.
Her mother, Sharon, recently came forward saying that the people who built the couple’s Hollywood home are responsible for their fatal illnesses. The architects’ work on the home, she claims, allowed mold to enter the home and, eventually, kill her daughter. She has filed a new lawsuit saying that she was misled by attorneys and tricked into giving up her rights to sue the architects for wrongful death.
Sharon went on to say that her lawyers convinced her to take a settlement offer in January for the construction problems. Unbeknownst to her, however, there was a stipulation which said that she wouldn’t be able to sue the building designers.
She has asked her new attorney, Michael Marzban, to sue her former lawyers for legal malpractice. She is also seeking compensation she could have won in a wrongful death suit, along with other damages.
Initially, many speculated that Murphy died of an eating disorder or a drug overdose. She was 32.
