Bruce Bowen Retires

The veteran forward decides to call it quits after 12 NBA seasons.

NBA.com reports that veteran small forward Bruce Bowen is retiring after 12 NBA seasons. Bowen is best known for winning three championships with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003, 2005, and 2007.

According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Bowen was among the best defensive players of his era. He was selected to the All-Defensive First Team five times while playing for the Spurs from 2003-2008. Though a great defensive player, Bowen has been accused by other players of being dirty, getting fined $10,000 in March 2006 for kicking guard Ray Allen.

Bowen spent his first 5 NBA seasons in Boston, Miami and Philadelphia, where he found little playing time. It wasn't until he was discovered by Spurs coach Gregg Popovich did Bowen emerge as an excellent perimeter defender, reports United Press International.
