Buccaneers Promote Josh Freeman to Starting Quarterback
USA Today reports that Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-year head coach Raheem Morris has promoted rookie quarterback Josh Freeman to starting quarterback and demoted second-year quarterback Josh Johnson to the backup role. Freeman was selected by the Buccaneers with the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and made his NFL debut this Sunday in London in a loss against the New England Patriots.
According to the Tampa Tribune, Freeman is the third different starting quarterback for the Buccaneers this season. Byron Leftwitch started the season as the starter, but was benched after the team's 0-3 start. Josh Johnson would then take over as starting quarterback, only to lose the next four games.
Now Freeman inherits the starting job on a team that is currently 0-7 for the season.
