Buffy to Be Back Without Joss Whedon
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that there is a Buffy, the Vampire Slayer movie in the wings that has nothing to do with Joss Whedon.
Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment, together with the director of the original 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, Fran Rubel Kuzui, and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, are planning to launch a remake - not a prequel or a sequel. The concept will be similar, but the characters will be different.
The Kuzuis own the rights to Buffy, which they bought from Whedon when he wasn't famous. Kuzui was also responsible for bringing Buffy to television, by joining hands with Gail Berman of Sandollar Television, and contacting Whedon to create the TV show that debuted on the WB in 1997. It ran for seven seasons, and received great critical acclaim.
When Entertainment Weekly asked Joss Whedon what he thought of the idea, all he had to say on the matter was that he hoped it would be cool.
