Burress Sentenced to Prison
The New York Times reports that former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been sentenced to two years in state prison for weapons possession. He was sentenced at about 10 a.m. by Justice Michael H. Melkonian of State Supreme Court in Manhattan. Burress was accompanied to the courtroom by his wife, Tiffany, and his son, Elijah.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Burress, 32, plans on continuing his professional football career after the completion of his two-year sentence. Burress's best-known football feat was making the game-winning reception in the New York Giants victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
The New York Daily News states that Burress pleaded guilty to weapons possession charges on Aug. 22 in a plea bargain deal. He could've faced 3 to 15 years in prison.
