Bush Asks Congress to Hurry with Bill
President Bush has been talking to Congress to craft a Bill to finance troops through September, and demands the money without conditions.
Democrats, however, say he must accept some conditions in the name of the American people and the soldiers themselves, changing his politics about the unpopular war.
Early this week, President Bush already vetoed a Bill providing $124.2 billion for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also requiring a withdrawal of troops by October 1.
In his weekly radio show, Mr. Bush explained that there would be no point of warning the enemies about when the U.S. would leave Iraq and that the Bill "imposed unworkable conditions on our military commanders, and included billions of dollars in spending unrelated to the war."
The Democrats replied, speaking through the Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, asking that the President work with them to find a way for both, funding the troops and changing the mission.
