NBC's "Today" show has hired Jenna Hager, formerly Bush, as a new correspondent, the Associated Press reports.

The former first daughter will contribute stories about once a month on issues like education, said the morning news show's executive producer, Jim Bell.

Hager, 27, is a teacher in Baltimore. She said that she has always wanted to be a teacher and writer and already has two books to her name. When Bell contacted her, she became interested in the idea of getting into television as well.

She will now work two part-time jobs as a correspondent for the "Today" show and in her school, where she will be a reading coordinator this year.

Bell decided to approach Hager after seeing her in wo "Today" appearances, one to promote her book "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope," about a an HIV-infected single mother. The interview went so well that a short interview was stretched to almost a half hour.

Hager "just sort of popped to us as a natural presence, comfortable," Bell said.

She will work out of NBC's Washington bureau. Bell expects her first story to be on sometime next month.
