Bush Gives Tanzania a Gift
CNN reports, on the second stop of his five-nation African tour, President Bush met with Tanzania's President and gave the country millions of dollars toward fighting disease and poverty.
President Bush and President Jakaya Kikwete were to sign a compact which agreed that the U.S. would provide a $698 million grant to Tanzania. The grant is intended to help the government provide mosquito nets and insecticide to prevent the spread of malaria.
"It breaks my heart to know that little children are dying needlessly because of a mosquito bite," Bush said.
According to CNN, when reporters asked President Kikwete a question regarding the possible election of Senator Barack Obama, whose father was from Kenya, Kikwete looked at President Bush and replied, "Let him be as good a friend of Africa as President Bush has been."
After visiting Tanzania, the President and First Lady will be traveling to Rwanda to meet with President Paul Kagame.
