Cameron Douglas Blames His Drug Abuse on Father's Success

Cameron's heroin addiction and legal woes are, apparently, not his own fault.

Michael Douglas' 31-year-old son Cameron has been ensconced in a humiliating drug scandal since his arrest last August, but the privileged “celebuspawn” has failed to take responsibility for issues stemming from his heroin use, instead blaming his father’s success for his addiction.

The younger Douglas attempted to sell the court a sob-story worthy of a Hollywood script during his hearing on Thursday, claiming that his enviable upbringing was, in fact, the root of his problems.

“[Douglas’] serious heroin addiction [stems from] notoriety that is not due to any acts of his own, but by a dint of birth and a difficult upbringing,” defense attorney Dan Gitner stated.

“He didn’t benefit from his celebrity,” fellow lawyer Nicholas DeFeis added. “He was hurt by it in a variety of ways, including ways in this case.”

Douglas’ legal team made it clear that the convicted meth dealer and heroin addict didn’t feel any sense of responsibility for his actions. Defense attorneys portrayed him as an overwhelmed child – an innocent boy from a broken home who had never gotten the chance to grow up in the shadow of his successful, powerful father.

The high school dropout’s psychiatrist Dr. Robert Millman made similar claims, once again blaming his parents.

“He has been sort of a reckless person since he was really young, endangering himself constantly,” Millman told the court. “Not violent, just screwing up in every way – car accidents, motorcycle accidents, tattoos. I think a lot of it had to do with who his parents are.”

Millman went on to describe how Michael Douglas and ex-wife Diandra’s rocky marriage and lack of parental supervision contributed to Cameron’s “dysfunctional upbringing,” which shattered his self-worth and “drove him to drugs.”

Federal Judge Richard Berman promptly denied Douglas’ request for bail – clearly, money doesn’t solve certain problems.
