Steve Carell and Keira Knightley set to team up in upcoming film

Following Steve Carell's exit from The Office, the funnyman will star alongside Keira Knightley in a dark comedy directed by Lorene Scafaria.

A Friend for the End of the World has Carell traveling across the country looking for his high school love after it is revealed that an asteroid is hitting earth.

Knightley will play Carell's neighbor, who joins him on his journey. The Atonement star is still negotiating details of the agreement to appear alongside the 48-year-old actor in the film.

Scafaria, who is making her directorial debut with Friend, wrote Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, in 2008.

Carell is also negotiating details of the arrangement, but things seem to be hitting their stride as the film will be set for release in late 2012.
