During the same time that Natalie Cole underwent a kidney transplant, her older sister, Carol Cole, who often went by the nickname "Cookie," passed away on Monday, according to the Associated Press.

Though the reason for Carol's death was not disclosed, her younger sister, Timolin Cole, reported that a "cancerous spot" had been discovered, according to the New York Post.

Natalie was at her older sister's side when she learned that a kidney had become available.

Natalie Cole had been struggling to overcome hepatitis C and underwent a kidney dialysis three times a week and received a successful transplant. However, after coming out of surgery, devastating news that her sister passed away was revealed to her.

According to the Associated Press, "Cookie" made an appearance on her father's 1950s television show, The Nat King Cole Show. She was later seen on television and movies in the 1960s and '70s, including Sanford and Son and the 1974 film, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, reported the Associated Press.

She was 64.
