Carrie Underwood and Queen Latifah Join Super Bowl Music Lineup
The NFL announced today that American Idol sensation Carrie Underwood and actress/singer Queen Latifah have joined the music lineup for the big game on February 7.
The country music star will perform the national anthem prior to the game, while Latifah will perform "America the Beautiful," as well. The two singers join the legendary rock band The Who, who will be handling halftime show duties by performing many of their greatest hits, including all of the CSI theme songs and a bit from the rock opera film Tommy.
No word on whether the two performers will be joining the rockers on stage during the halftime, though I can imagine the look of horror on baby boomers' faces should anything like that ever happen. Remember when MTV produced the halftime show that joined Aerosmith with Britney Spears, 'NSync, Marry J. Blige, and Nelly? Underwood and Latifah are fine performers, but it likely won't happen. And, if it did, it wouldn't even begin to reach the levels of sacrilege that was Hillary Duff covering "My Generation."
