Carrie Underwood may be one of country music’s biggest superstars, but the singer still knows where she came from. This past weekend, Underwood returned to her hometown to help build a playground at Marshall Elementary School in Checotah, Oklahoma.

According to Contact Music, the project, funded by Underwood’s own C.A.T.S. Foundation, which stands for Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation, and the non-profit organization, Kaboom! had Underwood and over 200 other volunteers working to build a 2,500-square foot playground at the school.

Carrie, who was accompanied by her mother, painted a mural, planted new vegetation, and helped to put the playground set itself together.

"We had the most amazing day putting together something truly special for the kids -- and the community," Underwood said in a press release, according to USA Today. "I'm so proud that so many volunteered their time to be here today."
