Case over "Watchmen" Film Is Nearing the End of the Line
Warner Brothers and Fox have been battling it out over the new Watchmen film, a highly anticipated adaptation of the comic book of the same name. In a ruling by a federal judge, Fox has the distribution rights for the film, which was created by Warner Bros. The final word is set to be handed down by Judge Gary Feess on Jan. 20, unless the two studios reach a settlement before then.
The origin of the suit came last February when Fox told the courts it owned the movie rights to the 1986 comic series with a cult following. Fox then attempted to block the release of the film. As long as a settlement can be reached, the film will debut in theaters on March 6. There is a ton of money at stake in the negotiations for the projected blockbuster and recent TV ad campaigns suggest that the two sides are reaching amicable terms. At the Golden Globes, the Fox and Warner heads were seen sitting together and being very friendly, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
