A video diary made by Casey Anthony, the Florida mother who was tried and acquitted in the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony, has surfaced on the Internet. The black and white video shows Anthony wearing glasses. It is her first public appearance since the trial ended.
According to MSNBC, the video was apparently recorded by herself back in October. In the four-and-a-half minute video, Anthony says that it is “surreal how much things have changed since July and how many things haven’t changed.” She goes on to say that she will stay in her hiding spot until February and adds that she might continue to release video diary entries.
She is “excited” about keeping the diary, saying that, “It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to call something mine.”
ABC News reports that Anthony describes how she is trying to learn how to use a new computer, camera and phone. "I'm just starting to figure out my new computer and, I don't know, I guess I'm liking it so far. It's obviously a different ball game for me because I've never used this before," she says. She claims that she paid for the computer herself, but the camera was a gift.
Anthony will be required to stay in Florida until her year-long probation is completed. She will be required to check in with a probation officer once a month.
Originally, there were questions about whether or not it was actually Anthony, since she did not post the video herself and her hair looks drastically different. When she was released from prison after the trial, she had long, brown hair, but the person in the video has short blond hair. The Chicago Tribune reports that it had been posted on caseyanthonyisinnocent.com and YouTube. A woman who posted it on YouTube claimed to the Tribune that she had no idea where it originated from and that she found it on Facebook pages.
CBS News had also called the video’s authenticity into question and noted that Anthony does not mention Caylee once.
Both NBC News and ABC News were able to confirm that it was Anthony, tough.
Anthony’s trial had lasted six weeks, ending in July when she was acquitted.
