Casey Johnson Died of a Diabetes-Related Condition

Coroner's Report says diabetes caused the heiress's death.

According to the L.A. County Coroner’s Office, heiress Casey Johnson died of diabetic-related complications.

In a report in the Los Angeles Times, the Coroner’s officials determined her death to be ‘natural’, and the result of diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication of diabetes which occurs when the body cannot use glucose because of inadequate insulin. The body substitutes with fat, and as the fat is broken down, acids called ketones build up in the blood and urine, reaching poisonous levels.

Johnson, born Sale Trotter Case Johnson, was diagnosed with diabetes as a child.

Her personal life was a staple for celebrity gossip sites, specifically her engagement to reality TV Star Tila Tequila a month prior to her death.

Johnson was found dead in her Westside home on January 4. She was the daughter of New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, and heiress to the Johnson & Johnson Empire. She was 30.
