Catherine Hardwicke Goes From Vampires to Werewolves

Catherine Hardwicke has signed on to direct Appian Way's "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood."

Catherine Hardwicke has left the vampires behind and taken on the werewolves.Variety confirmed that Hardwicke has signed on to direct the Appian Way project, "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood." The film is described as "a gothic retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story, with a teenage love triangle at its center."

Sound familiar? The film even may include some familiar faces. MTV News notes that Hardwicke has a habit of recasting stars. For instance, Nikki Reed appeared in both "Thirteen" and "Lords of Dogtown" before being cast as vampire Rosalie Hale in "Twilight."

Indeed, Hardwicke told MTV News that some "Twilight" stars have auditioned for her new project, a modernization of "Hamlet." She mentioned that "Hamlet" conflicts with "Eclipse" filming so only minor players could appear in the film. However, there is plenty of time for the "Twilight" stars to appear in "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood."

Since leaving the "Twilight" series, Hardwicke has faced rumors that Summit Entertainment was unhappy with her work. However, the slew of projects heading her direction indicates otherwise. In addition to "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood," Hardwicke is attached to a modernization of "Hamlet," "Maximum Ride," and "If I Stay."
