Catherine Zeta-Jones Furious with Doctors for Failing to Detect Husband’s Throat Cancer Sooner

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones’ husband, Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas, appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week and revealed that he sought attention from doctors for several months before a tumor was found in his throat during a biopsy.
Zeta-Jones, an Oscar winner in her own right, told People.com that she is furious with doctors for failing to detect her husband’s stage IV throat cancer sooner. She also stated that she is having a difficult time watching him battle the disease, but expressed confidence in his ability to overcome it by saying, “If there’s anything Michael has, it’s strength.”
Despite Douglas’ persistent throat and ear pain that began to bother him during the early stages of the summer, doctors were unable to find anything wrong until August. “It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier,” she said. “He sought every option and nothing was found.”
In regards to her husband’s continued radiation and chemotherapy treatments, Zeta-Jones told People, “I know maybe I should be stronger, but emotionally I just don’t want to see that. The hardest part is seeing his fatigue because Michael is never tired.”
The 2010 Tony Award winner in the category of Best Actress in a Musical her portrayal of Desiree in A Little Night Music also revealed that Douglas was up front about his condition with their two children, Carys, 7, and Dylan, 10. “Daddy sat them down and told them he has cancer now,” Zeta-Jones said.
