Catholic Celibacy Laws to Change?
Rules of the Catholic Church about celibacy could soon be changing now that a Miami priest is under fire over his relationship with a 35-year-old woman.
Rev. Alberto Cutie, also known as "Father Oprah," has been in a relationship with the woman, identified as Ruhama Buni Canellis, for nearly a year. Also, according to the Miami Herald, marriage and children could be in the future for the couple.
Cutie, 40, also told the Herald that his inner struggle over his love for the young woman and the church has been plaguing him for nearly a year.
He confessed his love for the woman on Univision, a popular Spanish-language television network, last Friday.
Now, "Father Oprah," who received his name because of the relationship advice he offers on Spanish-language radio and television shows, may be asked to resign. That was before Catholics from the Miami-Dade area began showing support for the priest and saying that the celibacy laws are outdated.
