CBS orders project by “Borat” director and writer
CBS has put in for a presentation order for an as-yet-untitled comedy from “Borat” and “Bruno’s” Larry Charles and Anthony Hines.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The semi-scripted project, from Sony TV and Tantamount, stars English actor Paul Kaye as a British low-life moving to LA to reconnect with his daughter who is a teen celebrity.”
Hines, a “Da Ali G Show" alum, wrote the script and Charles has been tapped to helm it. Hines and Charles will be working with the project’s showrunners Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Mitch Hurwitz.
The HollywoodReporter.com article goes on to say that, “The project reunites Hines with CBS. He was behind the 2006 semi-scripted pilot ‘The Papdits,’ which found a second life on the network's Innertube streaming platform.’”
The project is the second comedy pilot this season to feature an U.K. man coming to America. The first being ABC’s “Awkward Situations for Men,” which stars Danny Wallace, a British on-air celebrity, playing himself as he moves to America with his wife only to discover that his usual conduct conflicts with American values and gets him into trouble.
Charles’ past credits include helming several episodes of the HBO Larry David-created comedy “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” being a showrunner on the HBO hit dramedy “Entourage,” as well as on several episodes of the NBC sitcom “Mad About You” and was the supervising producer, producer and writer for many episodes of NBC hit sitcom “Seinfeld.”
