Celebrities Finally Verified on Twitter

Twitter Verified Account button will help to prevent users from creating fake accounts

Twitter is finally safe of celebrity impostors, reports PCMag. After several fake celebrity microblogging Twitterers emerged on the web, Twitter has finally release a beta version of Verified Account for the real celebrities.

Verified Account places a button of authentication on the upper right hand corner of pages to avoid confusion and identity theft.

Some well-known celebrity Twitterers like Oprah and Ashton Kutcher have already added the Verified Account button to their sites and many more are sure to follow suit. Twitter programmers will also go through the sites of public officials, public agencies and other sites likely to be hijacked by impostors to add the button. For the time being only a small collection of sites will receive the Twitter verification.

Even without the Verified Account seal Twitter co-founder Biz Stone says "the vast majority of Twitter accounts are not impersonators."

Stone hopes that in the future the use of the Verified Account system will prevent Twitter users from creating fake accounts.
