Just five days before her 74th birthday, soulful crooner Etta James passed away.

Entertainment Weekly reported the “At Last” singer died in California, Friday. She had been suffering from several terminal diseases, including leukemia, kidney disease and dementia.

Celebrities were quick to pay their respects to the 73-year-old.

According to USA Today, Beyonce posted a touching note on her website.

"This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime,” the singer who portrayed James in 2008’s Cadillac Records wrote.

“Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed."

Aretha Franklin also expressed her sorrow over the los, writing, “Etta James was one of the great soul singers of our generation. An American original! I loved “Pushover,” “At Last” and almost any and everything she recorded!!! When Etta SUNG, you heard it!"

Other celebrities including Steven Winwood, Dita Von Teese, Flo Rida, Cyndi Lauper, Pink, Chaka Khan, LeAnn Rimes and Kelly Rowland also posted their condolences.
