Celebrities Show Support for Patrick Swayze

Celebrities and friends show their support for Patrick Swayze's recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

According to Access Hollywood, celebrities and friends have been reaching out to show their support for Patrick Swayze, ever since his shocking diagnosis became public.

On Thursday's edition of "The View," Whoopi Goldberg told viewers that Swayze was the reason she won an Oscar for "Ghost."

"When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick," Goldberg recalled according to the Associated Press.

Former "Seinfeld" star Jason Alexander said, "I've never met Patrick, but he's good friends with my best friends and I'm sure they're devastated. We wish him well and Godspeed."

According to the National Cancer Institute, 37,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year and 33,000 will die from it. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is 3-6 months.

However, Dr. Boros of the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer pointed out that Swayze's doctor said he had "a very limited amount of the disease," which might make his situation more hopeful, according to Access Hollywood.
