Celebrity Birthdays, January 17

By Deborah Kim,

Happy birthday to Jim Carrey and Betty White!

Jim Carrey, 50
Jim Carrey is certainly one of the biggest comedians in Hollywood, but he deserves it seeing as how he’s been applying for comic jobs since age 10, when he mailed his resume to The Carol Burnett Show. In middle school, he was even given a few minutes at the end of each school day to perform stand-up routines for his classmates. He eventually dropped out of school altogether during his high school years to work on his celebrity impersonations and other funnyman skills. And at age 19, he moved from Toronto to Los Angeles by himself to pursue his career. He managed to get a few small gigs in TV shows and movies like Peggy Sue Got Married, Earth Girls Are Easy and In Living Color, before hitting it big with the 1994 hit, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Since then, he’s starred in more box office hits like Dumb & Dumber, Me, Myself & Irene, and The Mask, and he’s also proven that he’s a versatile actor, with starring roles in films like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. You can next catch him on the silver screen in 2013’s Burt Wonderstone alongside Olivia Wilde and Steve Carrell. In terms of his personal life, well we all know how he likes his ladies.

Betty White, 90
Betty White may be turning 90, but she’s still the coolest chick in Tinseltown. The veteran actress is making a name for herself with all generations of moviegoers, and admiring marines. Originally known for her roles as Sue Ann Nivens on Mary Tyler Moore and Rose Nylund on Golden Girls, White has since reached into a much younger audience as the hilarious, cute as a button grandmother on The Proposal and in that hilarious Snickers Super Bowl commercial. She was also the oldest person to host Saturday Night Live at age 88-1/2, back in 2010. Although, Alec Baldwin would like her to know that he holds the title for most SNL hosting gigs. But aside from her acting career, she was also named Hollywood’s 1995 honorary mayor and is a huge advocate for zoos.
