CFDA to Honor Fashion Designer McQueen
Fashion designer Alexander McQueen will enter the hall of immortals in a tribute later this year.
McQueen tragically died in a supposed suicide in London in February. To honor the life and career of the designer, he will receive the Council of Fashion Designers of America Board of Director's Special Tribute award at the fashion industry's annual gala this summer.
Amongst the living, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and last year's winner for up-and-coming talent, Alexander Wang, will compete for the award in the womenswear category, considered by all to be the most prestigious honor of the evening.
Emerging-talent nominees in womenswear are Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu. Emerging-talent winners in all categories will receive financial aid from Swarovski, the Austrian crystal company.
Tom Ford, Michael Bastian, David Neville, and Marcus Wainwright will be competing in the menswear category. Michael Kors will receive the lifetime achievement award.
The big event will be held in New York City on June 7.
