Channing Tatum used to strip for money before he became a famous actor, and his story is now the backdrop for a new movie. Director Steven Soderbergh is set to take on this project.

Tatum performed at a Tampa club as Chan Crawford in 1999, and now a movie is going to be made about Tatum's time there, according to CNN.com.

"This was a wild and pivotal time in my life," says Tatum, "and I couldn't be more thrilled to go down the rabbit hole with Steven.

The movie is going to be called Magic Mike. Tatum has worked with Soderbergh before on a movie called Haywire. Tatum will play a veteran stripper who mentors a younger new stripper.

“When Channing talked to me about this, I thought it was one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie,” Soderbergh said in a statement, Entertainment Weekly reports. “I said I wanted in immediately. It’s sexy, funny and shocking."

Soderbergh became famous for his work on Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, and Oceans 11. Tatum has become a star because of his roles in She's The Man and Dear John.
