Charges were dropped Thursday against a celebrity photographer accused of planting a listening device outside Nicole Kidman's mansion.
Jamie Fawcett was charged over two years ago with possessing and using a listening device after claims surfaced that he was seen planting a bug near Kidman's home in Sydney, Australia. The New South Wales State Department of Public Prosecutions withdrew all charges Thursday for reasons that were not immediately clear.
After Fawcett was initially charged, a Sydney court ordered him to provide a DNA sample to compare with samples found on the listening device. The photographer appealed to the New South Wales State Supreme Court, which ruled that he could not be forced to provide police with DNA since there was no evidence he had violated any law.
In 2005, Kidman settled out of court with Fawcett and another photographer, Ben McDonald, after she was granted a temporary restraining order against the two.
