Charlie Gibson Says Goodbye to ABC World News
Diane Sawyer tapped as his replacement
Stepping aside after 34 years of service, anchorman Charles Gibson ended his reign behind the ABC World News desk last Friday.
Beginning Monday, former Good Morning America co-host Diane Sawyer will be replacing the 66-year-old Gibson in what’s been marketed as a low-key transition.
Before he first anchored World News in 2006, Gibson began his career with ABC in 1976, and sailed through the ranks with stints at Good Morning America and Primetime newsmagazine. Gibson has also logged many assignments as a correspondent reporter, and told an Associated Press reporter he considers his time with the ABC Network “a labor of love.”
