'Charlie's Angels' close to TV comeback

The 1970s hit series, "Charlie's Angels," that made household names out of actresses Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and the late Farrah Fawcett, is this close to being revived for today's audience by ABC.

The smash 1970s action television series, "Charlie's Angels," is inches away of being revived by ABC for the modern day audience.

According to an article from Variety.com, "Josh Friedman, who recently adapted the ‘Terminator' franchise for his Fox series ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,' is onboard to write and exec produce the new ‘Angels.'"

Meanwhile, two of the original's producers, Leonard Goldberg, who launched the series with the late Aaron Spelling in 1976, and Nancy Juvonen, will be executive producers on the new version as well as actress Drew Barrymore, who starred in and produced the 2000 film version and its sequel.

Yet, the Variety.com article then mentions how similar revivals by other networks haven't panned out as expected, "Networks of late have found that it's frequently a challenge to take on iconic franchises — and several recent reboots, such as this fall's ‘Melrose Place,' have fallen short."

Despite this, ABC has beat the odds as "V," their adaptation of the 1983 miniseries, has been a ratings bonanza. Plus, while other comparable remake ventures have been shelved, "Angels'" benefits include a recent strong motion picture franchise as well as the buzz that will be generated as the search begins to find three new butt-kicking female stars.

The Variety.com article closes by saying, "The new ‘Charlie's Angels' is expected to be geared toward a new generation while paying homage to the past."
